Athroturbation Geology Flags: deYoung Museum Copper Facade Flag
Excerpt
from NOTES in the above image discussing the term anthroturbation:
The inclusion of the ‘anthroturbational’1 flag images, represents
the concept that the human-built environment using earth materials is a geologic
stratum (Holocene era) in its own right and should be represented in this system.
Architectural Graphic Standards, by Charles Ramsey, 1956, was used (along with
other books and materials from the architectural field) for developing this
aspect of the flag imagery.
A special flag was made in this context as shown as the top flag in the right
hand image referring to the copper facade of the new deYoung Museum that Protogaea
Civica: Geology Flags: Franciscan Formation/San Francisco, CA II, was
commissioned for the celebration of its opening in the Fall of 2005.
1. The term “anthroturbation was developed in conversation with the geophysicist,
paul spudich.
